THE COOPERS
AT TØNNEGÅRDEN

The art of making barrels is almost extinct. The coopers at Tønnegården, however, are in full swing and have created a new and modern workshop. Here you will be offered guidance by the cooper in person and see the professional at work and given a unique introduction to his craft.

THE COOPERS AT TØNNEGARDEN

Knowledge, skills and crafts has during the centuries been transferred from father to son and today the coopers Jostein and Oddvar at Tønnegården are fifth generation coopers keeping the tradition alive.

When you visit Tønnegarden they can also offer traditional dishes like the classical Norwegian lefse, sour milk pudding and other specialities. The milk and meats comes from their own herd of cows. Fresh air and loads of green grass gives the best milk and tasty meats.

Barrels are no longer only used for traditional purposes like the preservation of salted fish. Today many customers see the barrels as containers for collecting water, planting flowers or as objects for interior design or for creating maritime environments.
