Handmade
Making cutlery by hand is an exciting and time consuming process. We cast and mill. We handle, polish, drill and much more on machines from the 50’s. We put the cutlery together, part by part, at our factory in Geilo. This has been the case since 1943 and it will continue to be so.
Promised to the King
The cutlery first had the name “Märtha”. But we had not adequately protected the name, and suddenly another company had the right to the trademark. Our then chairman of the board, Milorg hero Jens Christian Hauge, thought about how we should solve this and came up with the simple – and Norwegian – solution to the problem; we call the King! He knew King Haakon well.
The king understood that there were jobs in danger here and gave us permission to use the name Skaugum. Along with the following call; run the business well.
The promise we made at the time is just as relevant today.
