The original «Penny Loafer»
The original version of the Aurland shoe was probably introduced in 1908. As a young man, Nils Tveranger trained as shoemaker in America before settling in the village of Aurland, where he set up his business. This is also where the original version of the Aurland shoe was created. The shoe had laces and flips and was marketed under the brand “National”. During the 1930s, however, it was redesigned to become what we know today as the Aurland shoe.
Preserving traditions and heritage has become increasingly more important. This is also the case with the classical Aurland shoe. Aurland Shoe Factory also cooperates with renowned Norwegian designers for new collections. Customers have also come to realize that this is where the original «penny loafer» comes from.
The factory is not only involved in the production of shoes. Recently they have also received assistance from large couturiers in their production of handbags and accessories.
You can experience the tradition and craftsmanship of the Aurland shoe, meet the shoemaker and see how shoes are made.
